Much better than the OEM part.

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 Diesel. The gear on the back of my tensioner broke so I had to order a new one so I started looking. I found one at Advanced Auto for double the price of this one. This one is a lot heavier and has a lot more tension than the original. I would definitely buy it again but don't expect everyone to have to replace it.

2003 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9L Installation

For now, this review begins with a decision on procurement and installation. I got it about an hour ago and it's already in the truck. I'm telling you, my old stretcher lacked a hell of a lot of tension compared to this thing. Installation took about 15 minutes and everything clicked into place perfectly. I installed this on a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9L Cummins. It will work, I promise you. The truck started right away and carried itself like a baby. I'll check back in about a month to see how…

Higher Quality Than OE ('06 Ram 2500 5.9L)

After 280,000 miles, the stock Dayco tensioner failed catastrophically. Received new Gates 38285 in less than 24 hours. Unbelievable the best product as other reviews claim! I was able to easily install the new belt after installing it first and tightening the bolt to specs (32 ft lbs). A NOTICE. The tensioner body is thicker than standard, so a longer bolt is included. Use it! Verdict: Very satisfied and happy I bought this instead of an aftermarket replacement from Cummins, OE Dayco or Dayco.

Heavy Duty, helps if you are smarter than the object you are working on

This is Heavy Duty. Bought as a replacement for the Dayco unit. I noticed that the block was thicker than the old Dayco. Didn't have time to put the belt on. We need to go back to the thinner Dayco block. To update! I was very angry because I couldn't put the belt on. Bought Dayco parts at local auto parts store. Had the same problem. Found this part and installed it. The gate part is sturdier and the wheel is metal instead of plastic like the Dayco. I'm glad I figured out what I did wrong.

A very good example of what to look for when buying car parts online

The tensioner appears to be a good quality product but. This particular tensioner was sold and shipped to someone before me! The box was opened and there were scratches on this part. You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to see that this piece has been put back into circulation because someone didn't do their job! If I wasn't in the quandary of installing this and getting my truck back on the road, I would be sending it back. Paying for new parts and getting used parts is not what I signed up…

Quality part best of the spares

I have a 2006 Ram 2500 diesel truck as it is new and the gate is what I used to replace the original tensioner when it first came in 2012 failed. I've noticed that the metal idler pulley outperforms the factory plastic idler pulley and that's a big plus. Now in 2020, after many years and many kilometers of work, it's time to replace the V-ribbed belt and I always do the tensioner, regardless of the good condition and maybe the remaining lifespan, so at almost 200 thousand miles, here I ride the

More reliable than OEM

I installed it on a 2012 RAM 3500 with a 6.7 liter Cummins engine. This is a stronger part than the OEM and many factory vises use metal roller vises. If you have this chirping when starting or stopping, this is probably the cause. It installs out of the box with no component or engine modifications required. If the tensioner itself hasn't had a bad accident and you know your belt is still okay, I suggest doing both at the same time. required), a very small amount of blue Loctite (recommended),
