🔧 Gates PowerGrip Premium TCKWP143 Timing Belt Component Kit with Water Pump Review

This is a set of high quality components as I have come to expect from Gates. The instructions were very clear and helpful. Affordable compared to buying parts separately.

None of these parts will fit the 92-95 Civic VX Hatchback D15Z1 engine. The Gates manual that accompanies the kit even states that it is. The water pump is too high, this belt has 106 ribs instead of 103, and the strut does not allow the tensioner to be fitted. Find a different brand kit for your VX.

Bought for my Honda Civic 89 based 2 door. All parts arrived as specified and as usual with first class delivery very quickly. I asked my mechanic if these are quality parts and he said Gates is the best of its kind. He also told me that they fit perfectly without any problems. I believe the installation charge was 1.9 hours for the belt and an additional 0.5 hours for the pump. So about 2.5 hours of work. It was the grade I was given and accused of.

This kit contains all the replacement parts behind the timing belt cover. Installation can be completed in 2-3 hours. Gates is a good belt. Made in the USA. Gates Unitta makes dealer belts for Honda which I suspect are slightly better (made in Japan). But the belt is not the problem. This water pump is MADE IN CHINA and the tensioner is made in Korea. In general, Korean products are pretty good, but the most important part here is the bearing, which MUST be made in Japan. Never again a cheap MADE IN CHINA water pump. I just had a brand new (not refurbished) AC compressor from China less than 3 years old…
