Great library for spatial analysis: GDAL

GDAL has many useful tools to process raster and vector data in GIS environment. I like best about this tool is that it can be used with other GIS applications like QGis or ArcMap. It also works well with non-GIS applications like Word or Excel. It is difficult to learn how to use all of its features at once. If you are new to open source software, then GDAL is not easy to use. You need to get familiar with each tool before using it. I am solving problems related to raster image processing…

Very useful for Satellite image analysis

It has all the tools I need to process satellite images in my research projects (elevation models). It works perfectly with QGIS as well so that's nice too! There are many tutorials online which show you how it can be used but they're not very detailed or easy-to follow if you don't know what you want from them already. If you have an idea of exactly what kind of processing your going to do then there shouldn't really be any problems using this tool. You will find yourself learning new things…

Pros
  • Powerful multi platform open source software solution for raster data analysis.
  • Flexible user interface making complex tasks easier than ever before possible without needing lots resources/bandwidth available at hand i
