Simple, works well.

The RX/TX lights are incredibly useful and inspire confidence. When I open a port and start sending data, it gives me confidence it's going where I see fit. Being based on the FTDI chip line, it is very reliable and the cross-platform driver support is excellent. I wish there was a variant that had all the serial status indicators punched out, but with a short cable. Unfortunately, I had to get another option with a cable that was a full meter longer than I wanted. As far as I know this is a…

Great product, decent price

* Failed to upgrade my original due to age. It went like this for about 4 years. I bought another one that should last another 4-5 years. The cable breaks at the junction with the plastic housing. I've tried many different USB to serial adapters, not even cheap ones. Productive, Keyspan, etc. I couldn't get any of them to work with my application. This one has an FTDI chipset and works great and also has LEDs to show link and connection status. Drivers can be downloaded for both Mac and…

Works out of the box on Linux

The reason I bought this item is because my old USB to serial adapter didn't work with the Freescale QSB I bought, even on Linux where the Adapter used to work with other devices. I have a breakout board that uses an FTDI chip and have never had a problem with it, so I figured an FTDI based USB to serial adapter would be just as reliable, and I was right. As soon as it arrived I plugged it into my Linux laptop and it was identified without installing any drivers, then plugged in my Freescale…

I've tried many USB serial adapters.

, all with pretty terrible results for all but the most basic usage. This USB/serial adapter was the best I've found so far (recommended on another site), and it's the only one I've found that actually behaves more like a dedicated serial port, while all the others do . I've tried SO MANY I can't even remember the chipsets as I bought almost every other brand I could find for a while before giving up for a long time. Usually these crappy adapters work fine for low data rates and then fail at…

Great CHIP, great product, everything cool! - UPDATE 2019

UPDATE 2019: Still stable 0 issues. Initial review: I bought this USB to serial adapter because another one I had was causing seizures (driver and manf issues). I picked this guy out at the last minute before going to a customer site. I've been using it for almost 80 hours since I bought it and it hasn't let me down yet, changed set-top boxes, changed bitrate, etc., nothing bothers it! The sending and receiving indicators are a nice touch (it's nice to know you're sending data to an…
