Description of 🌍 BN-880 GPS Module U8 with Flash HMC5883 Compass + Active Antenna - Car Navigation for Arduino, Raspberry Pi, Pixhawk, and APM Flight Controller

BN-880 is suitable for Open source flight controller, not for flight control with SCM. It is dual module compass, with and electronic compass IC HMC5883L. This gps module has flash to save configuration. So you do not need to reset next time when you use it. DIts data Level is TTL or RS-232, Default TTL level. To make it be RS232 output, you need to use one TTL to RS232 converter cable. When you use it for Raspberry Pi, there is no driver needed but you need to install software.

It's a good GPS and compass.!

I ordered a replacement for this unit because I thought the first one was defective. It was NOT broken. That was the mistake I made and now it works fine. I am a bit confused.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Fits

Very common GPS module

No instructions but can be found on youtube. Remember that it must be mounted "upside down"; The side with the small silver button should be on top. This is an antenna.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Not the best

Great little GPS module

Small area, very quick solution. To use the module with the Arduino I soldered the angled plugs to the holes in front of the socket, see attached photo. Please note that the default baud rate for the device I received was 9600 and not the 38400 listed in the product description.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad

Great, works well but not fast enough for rocketry

Thing is thick, warm and accurate (God only knows why I'm rating these qualities). What it doesn't do isn't good for high-speed Arduino projects like airplanes or rockets where you want to get telemetry data quickly. The serial port is slow, and you're better off with systems that can use faster communication channels.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • No instructions

Warm it up in the antennas

First use, it takes a long time to fix the GPS because the small backup battery is dead. It will always die after being left more than 2 days, this is normal. Then, after finding a solution, the next batteries will be available almost immediately. They work great but they are very fragile. They work for iNAV and GPS functions in Betaflight. I only wish you could mount it in a protective case, otherwise it wouldn't need to be on the quad to work properly.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Out of fashion

Delivered as expected.

Works as expected. There are a few things. First, the wiring harness is not configured for my controller. It's too small (1.0 pitch) to remake the JST connector, so I had to remove the connector and solder directly to the board. It's easier than trying to recreate JST connectors, but still difficult. The second problem is that the GPS can take several minutes to acquire enough satellites for the first time of the day. After that, it can take 30 seconds each time. That's a little longer than…

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Available in white only

Compass output separate from GPS

Very sensitive. A GPS that can be easily repaired indoors, which my portable GPS can't do. Note that the compass output is separate from the GPS output. GPS uses Tx Rx and outputs NMEA sentences. The compass uses I2c and outputs integers proportional to the X,Y,Z magnetic field. The compass output can be converted to direction, but only when the instrument is level. You need an accelerometer to do the equivalent of a compass on a gimbal. Both the compass and GPS work well, but it's better to…

  • Annual test period

Watch out for purple smoke!

I rarely write bad reviews, but this one won't be positive. The device arrived on time and I configured it correctly with a lab-level current limit of 3.3V. The supply was set to a limit of about 150mA. The module loaded and patched in about 30 seconds and displayed the location data correctly. A minute later, the overcurrent protection tripped. Oops. I reset the PSU to a slightly higher current limit because I think the CPU needs more when it needs to process some numbers. nope The same thing…

  • Decent performance
