Description of Enhanced Cooling Case for Raspberry Pi 4 Model B – Geekworm Armor Case with Dual Fan, Aluminum Alloy Construction for Effective Passive Cooling

Geekworm Raspberry Pi 4 armor case with dual cooling fan, aluminum alloy metal case specially designed for the Raspberry Pi 4 Computer Model B (1GB/2GB/4GB/8GB). All ports and slots of the aluminum alloy case can match with Raspberry Pi 4 Model B computer perfectly. Open case design, don't need to worry about affect wifi signal. Dual Fan - Low Power Consumption Design, Dual Cooling Expericnce, More powerful heat dissipation. With 2 or 3 pieces thermal pads (the thickness is only 0.5mm) to touch the shell body to dissipate heat. You can also use the CPU grease (not included) to get better heat dissipation. Note: If you think the blue Thermal Tape is not good enough for heat dissaption, you can replce it with thin 0.5mm cooper heatsink match with silicone grease (recommend Shin-Etsu Shin-tsu X-23-7921-5) for better heat dissaption.

Nice case, good fit but as Mr Thomas said above the thermal pads on the frame and the USB controller don't touch the case which actually acts as a heatsink. Well built and easy to assemble with the included hardware, and the thermal pad makes contact with the CPU but not other chips. It would be nice to use a thicker thermal pad or two included in the box. 42s idle. EDIT: Adding 2 stars for the communication this company provides. Within a day of posting my review the guys contacted me and said

Pros
  • Nice thing
Cons
  • Could have gone for a newer model

As mentioned in some reviews, the case does not come into contact with the processor, so there is no cooling and the processor in this case gets very hot than acceptable. I bought both versions with and without the fan hoping one of them would get it right, but both have the same issue. I haven't had this problem with similar cases for Raspberry PI 3B. Has anyone found metal gaskets covering the gap between the case and the processor?

  • Decent performance

Fans are of limited value, but this is a very good case.

I just received my case this week and can confirm that cases are still being processed with the spacing issue. With some pressure I managed to stick the thermal pads on both sides, but after less than an hour the pads came loose and the Pi started to heat up quickly. Combining the pads with some Arctic Silver solved the problem, but I can file down the case for a tighter fit. It's a good case, but it's a bit misleading. The fans are mounted so low on the heatsink that very little air flows…

The idle temperature dropped to 20°C

The idle temperature was around 50-52°C before this case and around 31-32°C after installation. I also got a separate 1.5mm thick Arctic thermal pad which may have helped a little more than the standard thermal pads that came with it. I can't comment on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth performance as both are disabled on my Pi.

Pretty good cooling at the stock clock speed and 2.0 GHz.

Mine arrived on 08/17/2019. After reading Scott Thomas' review, I made sure to check the clearance between the SoC, RAM and USB chips and their respective cooling tabs on the inside of the top case. I dry attached the case cover to my Pi 4 by placing a small ball of plasticine on each chip. After removing the top of the case, each chip had a thin film of Play-Doh on it, with the excess pushing out the edges. I carefully scraped half the film off of each chip and compared the thickness of the…

After a few months, the fans stopped working.

I ordered 4 pieces in December last year. I installed 3 of them, one is still in the box. After about a month, the fans started making noise. After 3 months, fans grabbed one of them. Just a few weeks ago, fans grabbed the second device. The fans of the third block are loud, but not packed yet. But I'm sure they're next.

Works well in single board computers

Very good. I am currently using the PI-4 as a desktop replacement. Can't believe it's performance. Actually, I'm writing this note about the device! I added a fan case. It lowers the operating temperature below 40 degrees "C". Before it gets over 70C. Overall it does a great job.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • For older

Works well!: computer components

After reading so much about the RPi4B heater, I decided to buy a cooler and do a test. 78 degree room 2nd pic 7 hours in the same room only metal radiators 3rd pic 11 hours metal radiators in the same room with fans running The same is available from Alibaba/Alibaba Express for about $8-$15 including shipping. Revain Prime the next day for around $20. https://www.amazon.com/Raspberry-Computer-Alum.../.../B07VD6LHS1

Poor USB jumper design and cheap fans

This case cools the Pi really well, but the fans are cheap and the USB jumper is not protected. Only used 3 months, both fans are noisy and starting to fail. The USB jumper is not protected and can easily be shorted out when connecting a second USB drive. A poorly designed jumper has failed and no longer works. As a workaround, use a male-to-male Type A USB cable.

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not everything fits
