I can use this product because I can't find a replacement. It's annoying having to buy a whole box of different softness levels when I only want the softest. It is also annoying that it has a square format instead of round. Why would an artist need a square drawing tool instead of a round one?

The product itself is exactly as advertised, the compressed charcoal is painted a beautiful deep black (choose Vine/Willow for more shades). Sticks usually arrive with at least one broken. But they could be taken care of for delivery (although at what point they will be damaged is unknown).

Works beautifully and is the same brand that sells Dick Blick (where the universities get their stuff). The eyes are drawn with Conte colored pencils. The rest is compressed charcoal in black and white. In college I used chalk and a white pencil for white. This was my first time trying white pressed charcoal. I think I prefer the white Conte pencil which is more intense (use less).
