Waste of Money for Aspiring DIYers

The Gikfun Electronic Snowflake Soldering Practice is a substandard tool. Tools and home improvement should never include this. After I put it to the test, the product hardly held up. Although it may be inexpensive, it doesn't have many benefits. Its design hinders its effectiveness as it cannot properly hold components in place.

Zero instructions available everywhere

The kit arrived and was fairly easy to put together, it has a connector so you can probably flash the microcontroller but there are no instructions anywhere on how to do it. Otherwise it works as expected.

The explosive power of component

Worked fine for about 4 seconds. and then the rear diode with the inscription "M2RD" burst and started smoking like crazy! You can see the burnt component and PCB damage in the attached photo. It was a component that came pre-installed on the board, so (at least on my part) there was no user error. I figured I could just go online and order a new one to replace it and then I'd know there was no such thing. I have no idea what this component is or what it does, but the whole kit is useless now…
