Simple, no frills: tripod heads

Had to get it to at least experiment with my first Nikon D5100 monopod at this price point. Just wanted to clarify as some others have said that the piece of cork is plastic. The handle is also plastic with a rubber tip for your fingers. In the free state, the bullet is very smooth. I don't have a monopod yet, but I attached a camera with an 18-200mm lens and held it in my fist. This is the most forward weight I'll ever have and it held up well after I rotated it, but nowhere near the Hercules.

Pros
  • 7 lb. resilience.
Cons
  • Big and chunky

Impressive features for its size and price

This is a fantastic little device - you get a lot of ball head for its size and price. A previous reviewer thought it could only carry 3 pounds, so I tested it with the heaviest gear I have - my Olympus E-M5, battery pack, 50-200mm lens with mounting ring and flash. Everything says it's a 5lb 6oz Micro 4/3 photo quality - and the ballhead handled it without too much trouble (see photos of this unit for proof). I could tell there isn't much support left at this load, so you're probably safe to…

Pros
  • A handle for locking the ball and socket in place
Cons
  • So far so good

Ideal for small cameras but not for DSLRs

I've had 15 of these! so why three stars? They are ideal for smaller cameras up to DSLRs with a small lens like a kit lens or a 50mm lens. DO NOT buy it for more. I don't care what other people say. I've been using them for a long time to know what they can hold. You put something heavy on it and it starts to detach from the ball head. and at some point the ball head can no longer be tightened. It is very important! I've also used them to hold the Triple Flash socket and slide the umbrella…

Pros
  • Socket with 3/8" female and 1/4" female
Cons
  • Very expensive
