The first time I shampooed my hair I left it on for 5 minutes before rinsing it out. He immediately removed the brassy yellow tint and also noticed that my hair wasn't as frizzy anymore. This really works for blonde hair and light highlights! My salon used it on my hair. I went to Walmart and bought a similar product. The Walmart brand had a strong smell and I didn't get the light results I wanted. I bought it as I said, my salon uses it and it works as described and the smell is not overpowering.
