Good designs for gifts and take-home projects

I've just flipped through this book for the first time and have already identified a few projects I'd like to do. Will come in handy when I get stuck on 'What on earth can I do'. The templates are clean and easy to use, which always helps. There are enough new techniques for me to keep my interest. I'm sure I'll come back to it many times when I need a new project.

Today's Modern Patterns

I love the patterns in Great Little Gifts to Knit: 30 Quick and Colorful Patterns because they aren't big and chunky which means we know you knit it. If you give someone something from this book, will they say you made it? Indeed? I thought you bought this in a boutique. There are so many things in this book that I would like to do for myself before starting the gifts. My favorites are the Fiesta shrug with matching fingerless gloves and oversocks. We avid knitters know what a leap of faith it is to knit someone a gift.
