Can't say if it works.

Let's start with what barely sticks to the tank. Then it is quite difficult to deal with the "caliber" in front. I can't tell if this thing works or not. It might work, but it's certainly not worth the trouble. waste of money. You need to invest a little more and put real linear pressure gauges on your tanks.

  • One year trial period
Cons
  • Sparse instruction

The indicator works great when your grill is in use; not when it's off

Solved my BIG problem How much propane is left? Works perfectly according to the instructions. Note to those who say this never changes: you have to turn on the propane and fire up the grill before anything registers on it. When you do this you can see exactly where the level is in the tank.

Clever idea but doesn't work well with standard propane tanks

The problem with this unit is that the magnetic backing isn't strong enough to pull it firmly against the curved walls of a standard propane tank. This is especially true in the lower range where being able to read readings is most desirable. Also you need to shake it up a bit and get some evaporative cooling to get the temperature difference at the liquid boundary. This is difficult when the tank is mounted on the grate.

Not certified for every propane tank or usage pattern

I see there is a manufacturer comment that they are rated for use with 20 lb tanks. Shame on them they didn't talk about it directly. But it works well for 20lb tanks if you're using fairly high BTUs. If you put this thing on a tank that isn't being used or is burning low fuel like I use my smoker, you might not see anything useful at all. However, if you pour hot water over the area, you'll see (within an inch or so) a temperature gradient between the liquid and gaseous phases, even if you're…

Better Than Nothing

If your tank has plastic shrink tubing, it won't stick. The magnet is not very strong. You can only read the bottom 4 inches of the straight side of the tank. I think that's all it takes. The curved bottom has a gas reserve when the gauge shows the tank is empty. My previous grill had a spring scale that worked pretty well, but the new grill removed that useful feature. The directions aren't big, but if you look at the indicator, you can understand where the level is. Only read if you are…

But I tried. . . good for engines and engine parts

I cook a lot and running out of LPG while cooking is stressful. I had sensors once, but they got lost or lost their magnetism because they were out of the elements. I bought them in one of the big stores but nobody had anything like it. So I bought that. I read reviews and scolded people who couldn't follow directions. I apologize publicly to you all. First off, I buy LP cans from grocery stores and the cans I receive (and return) come with paper labels. These sensors are not liable. None of…

Works great - once you understand how they work.

Works as advertised. I bought 4 of these at this price to fit a 100lb tank (stacked on top of each other as they are only 4 inches tall). The magnet only measures the temperature of the surface below and is therefore only as accurate as the temperature difference across the surface of the tank. In order to show the actual temperature difference in the liquid/gas line, the tank needs to work for a while. As a result, the liquid cools down through evaporation (basic thermodynamics). the liquid…

As far as I can tell, it just doesn't work.

I don't see any indication of the propane level in the tank on this gauge. While using a propane tank running in the shade the gauge got stuck in a few different places on the tank (actually I bought 4 of these and put 3 in different places on the tank to cover the whole tank so don't forget to take somewhere a spirit level) and for tanks that were later found to be about half full I could never see any trace of the level. Ambient temperature was about 70 F. I have used these gauges on both the
