Amazing DAC to match your amps

Well built, great clean sound but otherwise completely silent. True to the reviews and I would have no hesitation in recommending this DAC to anyone, plus it's reasonably priced. First class product support, delivered quickly and packaged very well. If I had one suggestion, like some of the other reviewers, it would be to enlarge/enhance the display and make it more readable from a distance. If you have an X16 close by this isn't a problem, but if your stack is far away it's hard to see what's…

Having had bad luck with the SMSL M400 and Topping X30 in the past, I settled on the more expensive Gustard X16 after reading a rave review from Audio Science. This DAC features two ESS ES9068AS chips with onboard hardware MQA bitstream decoding. I think the internet spies were following my purchase because a day later I received an offer for a few months of Tidal HiFi with MQA implementation. I tried a few songs from Tidal and my…

My first external DAC

I am using Novatron (Cocktail Audio) X35 which is a combination of ripper, streamer, NAS, DAC and amplifier. A long time ago I gave up using an amplifier to just use a streamer and DAC. The internal DAC is good, but it's an early-gen ESS Saber Pro single chip and I've always wondered if an external DAC would sound better. I finally pulled the X-16 trigger and the results exceeded my expectations. I output a number from the X35 via USB and it's not like the X-16 has a few hours, I find its…
