💧 Hagen HG Fluval FX5/FX6 Motor Unit: Superior Performance for Optimal Water Filtration Review

I have been using a 2012 FX5 in a turtle tank since 2012 and the motor just failed. The new motor came with 4 bolts and was replaced in a few minutes. I was a little disappointed, it was $140 but it's still cheaper than a new filter. The new pump starts immediately and is fairly quiet (no louder than when you bought the filter).

I bought this for my FX5 that started making noises like it was going out. Have found it cheaper than buying new. Reading the reviews I was skeptical because people said these were used parts. When I received it it looked like new. I unscrewed the old motor and screwed in the new one. (Yes, the FX5 and FX6 engines are the same, just different fairings). Switched on and boom. works like magic. Best money spent, or should I say saved. Worth every penny.

Just installed on my fx6. Had to use existing screws as they are not supplied but everything fits perfectly and on start it shuts down as intended. No leaks. My last one was the one that came with it and she's about 5 years old. The old one still worked but the flow seemed a bit low so I figured I'd take action and replace it with b4, it came out. I'm not sure how long they should last, but 5 years or so seems like a pretty good run. Now I have a backup. I will update this review if I encounter

Unfortunately my experience with the Fluval FX6 shows that the engine dies after the first year of use. The good thing is that it is very easy to replace. Now I had to replace both motors on my filters. The first was a little over a year ago and is still going on. My new filter lost its motor about a month ago and the new motor is working great again. While I'm disappointed that the original hardware failed like clockwork after a year, I'm glad the replacement seems more reliable.

Waste of money. When the product is sold, the FX6 filter will no longer work. Looks like the impeller is stuck. This kept happening after multiple attempts to reinstall as a pair. I don't know why, but it sucks the way it is. When the impeller stopped working at night, it created enough pressure in the canister to force the water to flow out of the unit over all sealing areas.
