Perfect size for stained glass.

Tip is great for soldering stained glass. Heats up quickly and retains heat. The seats are much better than the attachments that come with the iron. I will buy again

Pros
  • Great Price
Cons
  • Legacy Model

Ideal for large heavy coax cables.

I'm a novice at best with soldering irons. I struggled to heat up heavy coax with a factory lug and did more damage than anything else. This was very important to me as I was able to consistently make good solder joints. I had to order that at the same time as a real soldering iron and save myself a lot of trouble and a wasted coax.

  • Pleasant

  • Mostly OK, but...

IT IS a colored glass tip!

I needed to replace my original soldering iron which I use to make stained glass windows and wanted something better than the typical low quality soldering irons on the market. I found the Hakko FX-888D and settled on it, but wasn't sure which of the many accessories available would work with the SG. I bought a multi kit that had some smaller chisel tips and they 'might' work for thin solder line projects, but for the general soldering we do with stained glass this is the tip. Perfect sizeโ€ฆ

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • Some difficulties

Excellent tip. I have some small 900M T-tips for fine work, but this 5.2mm diameter T-18 tip is great for fat LiPo batteries. I solder battery connectors to 10 and 12 gauge wires and that's the tip for this job. Heats up quickly and thoroughly and is a must for thick wires. Since Hakko no longer sells 900M T-tips, it was nice to find that the T-18 tips are an exact replacement (tube length and diameter) for my old Hakko iron and station.

Pros
  • Excellent design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Great soldering iron!

I bought it for soldering RC car connections and it does the job perfectly. Initially I thought I would try to do the job with the needle tip which is standard on almost all soldering irons. All in all I made a mess out of it. The wires I soldered were 12 gauge and the small tip just didn't transfer heat well enough. I bought this tip after reading the reviews and the difference it made was amazing. Obviously this is a high quality tip and looks like it will last a very long time. Solder joints

Bam bam tip, great for any Hakko or Hakko knockoff radioshack

The great thing is that these tips work with a radio shop model that Ratshack doesn't offer tips for. There are also several other rebranded Hakko that can use these fantastic high quality tips. I use them for large heatsinks and SMT work. HF amplifier with ultra-fast solder joints even at the highest heat. Shellfish. Obviously small lugs for surface mount, but this bit is great for large copper plates and penetrating between transformers. Because the Hakko and Radio Shack versions are ceramicโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
