HARKEN - Bike Overhead Garage Storage Hoist with Self-Leveling & Safe Anti-Drop System Review

I am very happy with this product. I use it as a bike lift but I see it being used to lift everything else off the garage floor. The quality seems pretty good to me and I haven't had any to speak of wear and tear for a while.

I used and installed cheaper models with two deflection rollers. All you have to do is find a rafter in the garage to screw in a tow hook, which is a real benefit when you're working up an eight-foot ladder. Rope and mechanics are also much better. Worth the extra money.

You open the box and what comes out is a quality you haven't seen in 20 years, it's great. This isn't cheap mass-produced junk from China. I'm a retired engineer and this just reeks of great design and workmanship. It's easy to install, easy to use and works perfectly. Highly recommended

I attached a 48" 2x6 crosswise to the garage ceiling joists with LONG screws in the middle of the joists and then hung 4 bikes with 4 of these rakes- Kits about 12" apart on . One is about 8 inches from the wall. Bikes wobble a bit when going up and down but I like the layout. They can move 18 inches apart and have plenty of room. These screws are perfect for attaching 2x6 to racks: FastenMaster FMHLGM412 -50 HeadLOK Heavy Duty Pan Head Fastener, 4-1/2", 50 pcs.

This is an easy to install quality part. I've had several of the two bike hangers in the past and they were a lot more tiring to hang. With this device, all you have to do is find a bolt, drill a pilot hole, insert an anchor and run the rope. The mechanism works well and looks good. The only problem with the single point design is that the bike can sometimes rotate or not hang parallel to the wall. It doesn't really matter, but it might bother some.

I love cycling and have moved into an apartment right on the bike path. It's good! But now I only have a 1 car garage for my 5 bikes and my car. These lifts are very useful for getting my bikes off the ground and making room for my car (as it has to be removed from the parking lot and put in the garage in winter). They were easy to install, just finding and drilling one hole per bike. The lift is durable and easy to use. I highly recommend. It's worth the premium for quality and ease of use.

Update: Harken said they will supply a replacement for a prematurely worn out lift. They were very enthusiastic about the customer care until I changed my review to reflect what I consider good customer service, then they suddenly lost interest and never sent a replacement. If you want an expensive elevator that is rarely used, this is a good choice. Otherwise, a tiny important part is made of soft material and wears out quickly, and you have to replace the entire lift at least once a season…
