Not good. - Camp Kitchen

I expected better for the price but the other reviewers are right. Lots of hides and hard pieces that never soften make it less valuable. Right now I'm just trying to use shallots to get something better.

Usually great. best in freeze dried foods

I always order this shallot. You are adorable. We use it in omelettes, sauces and all kinds of applications. This last glass contains dark purple bits that should not be chewed. Feels like plastic. I don't know where the shallot got peeled badly or what else got into the chopper.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Easy maintainability

Watch out for reviews that talk about shallots.

Pay attention to the reviews that say the bottle contains shallot peel. You are right! Based on the general feedback, I decided to give it a try, but I should have heeded those warnings. The bottle is full of shells that shouldn't be eaten. Ridiculous.

Pros
  • nice little thing

Need it for camping and hiking

I'm here to get another batch! This shallot goes in almost every dish I cook. They're amazing and *much* more convenient than buying shallots from the store. This is my favorite addition to salt, pepper, and garlic. Great quality and they taste amazing in everything from eggs to soups to burgers or anything that has liquid or fat in it to rehydrate in a pot or pan! If you haven't tried them yet, get them. You will be amazed from the first dish.

No more than $3 a pound at the grocery store Shallots for us

We love to cook with shallots. But they are difficult to grow and fresh in our local supermarkets is $3 a pound. We tried it. For us it's close enough to fresh. An inexpensive way to add umami[.] to your cooking is to take 1-2 TB of these shallots and a piece of dried porcini and wet them in 2 TB of Worcestershire sauce along with 1 TB of tomato paste. sauce and a tablespoon of white wine or chicken broth. Add to cooking liquid, sauce or gravy. Doesn't matter!

Pros
  • Sample for a year
Cons
  • Mashed

Add anything cooked in liquid!

You can add them straight from the container to any liquid or dilute with some water for other uses. Well, it might not work in jelly, but any soup, stew, stir-fry, or meat is enhanced by adding a little bit of it to them as they cook. They're subtle in the sense that they don't really show up in the dishes made with them, but for some subtle reason they make everything taste better. ), but I had to pay for shipping. Now at Revain Prime I can get the same product for the same price but with…

Highly recommended! ideal for camping and hiking

Updated Review 2018: I reordered and unfortunately received a used, returned package. Someone has already ordered this and sent it back to Revane. I don't feel comfortable using the returned groceries. When I emailed the company, unfortunately they refused to help. I was sad because I loved their product but if they can't help me with this dilemma I can't change the order if I risk ordering used food! Fresh and tasty. I've used them in soups and sauces and they're amazing. I bought dried…

I was so excited to be able to use this shallot in my kitchen. The first time I used them and dished out the casserole, I kept getting the "papery" stuff in my mouth. After a few bites, I realized they were shallot skins that had not been removed prior to dehydrating. Almost half of a tablespoon was like paper that doesn't fall apart and doesn't soften. I am so disappointed in this product and even more disappointed that I cannot return it. If I had seen them in a store I would never have…
