Elegant solution to the DVR problem

I bought this to use with a Plex server which I installed on an old PC currently running Linux Ubuntu as the operating system. The Hauppauge website has all the instructions you need to easily install the card. Driver. Plex recognized the card immediately and no further setup was required. At first sight 4 tuners may seem superfluous but you have to consider that this tuner is not available when the program is even 1 minute past the hour to record a new program. With 4 tuners, I was able to…

Four tuners for Plex made easy.

I bought this, installed it on a 3rd gen i5 computer, installed the windows drivers and my plex server was able to find it right away and made four tuners available for recording and viewing programs. Location, with antennas in the attic, I receive 98 channels, all with excellent picture and sound quality. I have previously installed a Hauppauge WinTV-dualHD USB dual tuner on the same computer I have installed and both Hauppauge devices work great together allowing me to use a total of six…

Amazing performance

I installed this TV tuner board on an old PC and then set it up for OTA HD TV streaming (ATSC) using Plex Media Server. I have 3 TVs connected to one HD antenna in my attic. This card found more channels than my TVs and all have excellent signal strength. I haven't run any tests, but this card seems to have a tuner that is much more sensitive than any of the TV tuners I own. Map customization couldn't be easier. Directions are great. I prefer the Plex interface, but it's a nit. This card is…

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Something is wrong

So I just fired this thing up. Don't let the name fool you: there are HD channels, but not all. I don't use an antenna. I use Clear QAM at my cable company. No, they don't support this setup (because it's basically free cable in every room of the house without having to pay extra for your hardware). Service and picked up the device but what they didn't do was turn off the QAM signal. That's when people figured out how to connect the coax cable directly to the TV, and thus got a spare cable: So…

WinTV-quadHD PCI Express TV Tuner Card

HAUPPAUGE WinTV-quadHD PCI Express TV Tuner Card 1609. I installed a WinTV-quadHD PCI Express tuner card in an older Windows 10 tower connected to an external antenna is connected. . So far this tuner card has worked great and I've had no problems. I receive 5 OTA network channels (ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, CW) in my area plus 5 other Spanish channels. The WinTV8 software allows you to record 4 channels simultaneously and although I have attached screenshots from WinTV8 I prefer to watch on my 50"…

Works perfectly! best in the internal TV tuner and capture cards

Installed on a plex server and it was great. We hooked it up to the antenna in the attic. I had no driver issues in Windows 10 and setup issues. My only concern is that the signal transcoding is done on the server itself. It's not a big issue with my server, but if you have a less powerful server you might want to consider the HD Homerun product, which doesn't require your server to do any transcoding.

Reliable WinTV product

I have used a few WinTV products over the years. This card is reliable, like most of their other products. I'm using this card on a 9 year old Windows 10 Pro PC with 8GB RAM and an Intel Core 2 quad core processor, but not with the included WinTV software. Instead, I use PLEX, which turns this old PC into a video server that feeds our TVs with Roku devices, tablets, and computers. The included WinTV is fine. But I don't use it. However, this card, like other WinTV products, has a lot of…

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Low maintainability

Of course I don't hate HAUPPAUGE, but they didn't excel with the products they offered. I tried this product and yes it worked but it seemed buggy and unreliable. Everything worked much better under Emby, but there were some inconveniences during setup. The tuners weren't as sensitive as other products, so I didn't feel like I was getting everything from the included tuners. HAUPPAUGE deserve credit for being the pioneers of PC tuner cards, but on the other hand, better and more reliable…

If you are looking for an update for an old Hauppage tuner.

. this might disappoint you. TL; DR: All but a select few channels (usually local HD) work fine, but no better than my old Hauppage tuner. Stuttering ranges from observable to impossible. This works for all low quality channels and some high quality channels. But something at HD level or higher you might run into problems. I checked hard drive speed, cable signal, processor, memory, graphics card performance and PVR software. and it looks like the bottleneck is the tuner, which can't handle the

Pros
  • Cool
Cons
  • Doubtful purchase for the elderly

Good thing Linux Mint Mate 18.3 with kernel 4.15 has drivers ready to use (plug and play). The Plex Linux server detected two dueling tuners and searched for stations. Tested on multiple live stations and everything was fine until I tried the HD 720 station, the audio/video was out of sync for a few seconds. This seems to be a known issue with Plex Server and this tuner card as it uses MPEG-2. Plex has transcoding issues when streaming HD 720 A/V as the audio is streamed directly and the video…
