the seller is excellent / the book is not very good

the item was in excellent condition, really like new. Arrived quickly and cost me half my local Advance Auto parts price. All 5 stars. However, the inconsistencies and inaccuracies I found in the book Your Car Should KNOW gave the book itself a 4 star rating.

Pros
  • very good price
Cons
  • small things

Haynes is simply the best auto repair manual

Haynes is my favorite choice for auto repair manuals and this edition does not disappoint! They literally take the car apart and put it back together. Tons of photos and procedures well explained. Error codes are also listed and explained, making diagnosis much easier!

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • speed

Terrible guide to diagnostic, test and measurement tools

Now that my truck is 10 years old I'm starting to get squeaks, rattles and random parts that I need. Substitute. For my needs, I found Haines' guide to be generic and unhelpful. It didn't even have a diagram of the fuse box, if that's any indication. Too bad they sunk so low. I'll take another reviewer's advice and try the Chilton or save up for a dealer service manual I think.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Difficult to remember but it was

Pretty good book. for tools and equipment

good enough book for most repairs. A detailed description with pictures is nice. I recently used this guide to replace the rear spring/shock on an Expedition 97. There were some unnecessary steps in the book that I didn't take when swapping out (like removing the drive shaft, which sure is a safety precaution, but lowering the rear axle doesn't harm the gimbal because gimbals have a wide range of motion), but otherwise there is it a good book.

Pros
  • price
Cons
  • infinitely slow

Sometimes you don't have much of a choice

It's a blessing, sometimes a shame, that Haynes signs various writers/mechanics for their manuals. I usually buy a Haynes manual every time I buy a new car. I'm a backyard mechanic, which means I do everything except transmission repairs. I have 23 Haynes manuals. The best manuals are of course European since Haynes is a British publication. The ones I bought in Europe are all hardcovers, an option not available to us here in the States. But the best thing about Hein's guides is that theyโ€ฆ

Pros
