Mesh and zipper are not required to access the larger lower compartment. A baffle flap protects the GPS when Velcro closed and separated from the contents of the larger compartment. I recently upgraded my GPS from 5" to 7" and needed a larger case. After some time of research I found this case and I'm glad I bought it! Well made and roomy

I travel occasionally and like to take my own GPS with me (you can never count on Hertz/Avis to have it on hand when you need it). You never know what kind of car you're going to buy, so you'll need to pack a whole bunch of mounts. I have a dashboard that I can use with command bars, an AC fan holder, and a few other bits and pieces. I also have a power cord and I would like a USB charger for my phone and a 3.5mm connector cable for audio. I don't like looking for all of these pieces when I go…

. All the cables and the instrument panel fit quite comfortably. One star off because of the size.

Good enough for a 5 inch GPS with all the cables and dash. One star deducted because the large main compartment zips down the middle and the installation makes it a bit of a hassle to squeeze things in and out (there's plenty of room in this compartment, just awkward to open). Otherwise super impressed. It seems well made and I think it will offer good protection for the GPS.
