Description of 🎧 HIFIMAN HE400SE Stealth Magnets Version Over-Ear Open-Back Full-Size Planar Magnetic Wired Headphones: Great-Sounding, Comfortable, High-Sensitivity Audio Gear for Audiophiles and Studios

What is a planar headphone? What are its benefits over other designs? Planar headphones feature conductive layers that cover nearly the entire diaphragm, resulting in significantly lower distortion than conventional dynamic headphones. Acoustically Invisible Stealth Magnet Unlike the sound waves created by a conventional magnet, the special shape of Stealth Magnets enables the waves to pass through the magnets without generating interference. HIFIMAN’s advanced magnet design is acoustically transparent, dramatically reducing wave diffraction turbulence that degrades the integrity of the sound waves. The reduced distortion yields pure sonic output that is accurate and full-range. Durable Connections The headphone’s drivers are protected by a newly designed casing for enhanced durability and protection from the elements. A dual-sided high-performance 3.5mm cable is packaged with a 6.35mm adapter for maximum compatibility with a wide range of devices. The HE400SE’s high sensitivity makes it the perfect match for low-voltage sources, including portable hi-res. audio players. Maximum Comfort for Hours of Listening Pleasure Thanks to its newly designed adjustable lightweight headband, the HE400se remains cool and comfortable for hours, even in excessively warm weather.

Great sound at a great price

I really appreciate music of all kinds, but especially acoustic instruments and the human voice. I am also very humble by birth and necessity. My previous favorite headphones were the Sennheiser 414 and my current other headphones are the B&O Form 2. My current speakers are the Magnepan .7. As you can see from my other selections, I prefer an open, natural, relaxed tone. You have it in abundance. The spectrum is consistent from the standing bass or the kick drum to the piccolo or violin. I only

Pros
  • Quality workmanship
Cons
  • Negative impression

These are my first headphones in this price range so I don't know how they compare to the more expensive ones but I know they sound fantastic. The sound is open and natural. I followed another reviewer's recommendation to remove the grill backing and wow. I had to take them off to check I wasn't actually listening to external speakers. The sound opened up even more. I ended up reattaching the grilles, but first I removed the fabric covering (it comes off instantly) so that the openness is…

Great sound in unique and relatively inexpensive headphones

Received today. Great sound from my iPad and even better with my cheap fiioA1 headphone amp (bought from Revain). The sound quality is top notch. The sound is better than my expensive Sony wireless noise canceling headphones. These are my first planar headphones and they seem like a steal at $150. Sound leakage is minimal (only the person next to you can hear what you're listening to). I can change this rating after the company recommended 150 hours break-in. What I don't like so far is the…

It sounded great until it didn't sound so great. (updated)

These are the first planar magnetic headphones I tried. Coming from the Sennheiser HD 558, the sound quality was excellent. Unfortunately the same day I received them, the correct driver began producing a distorted sound when playing bass. The longer I played sound through them, the worse it got. However, the left side played normally without any distortion. I switched both cables and sources to narrow down the source of the problem and it was the same problem everywhere. I'd read some horror…

Don't waste money. Invest in something meaningful.

I read reviews about HIFIMAN headphones on YouTube and heard a lot of positive reviews. So I chose the HE400SE headset. I connected them to my DAC, boosted the bass, then the unexpected happened: extremely strong bass distortion at a moderately high volume when boosting the bass with the equalizer APO, because that's what I use music with every day. I have never been so dissatisfied with these supposedly high quality headphones when I get far less distortion from my $25 KZ headphones and my…

Simply Amazing In Ear Headphones

This is amazing. Audiophiles will love it! This is my first magnetic planar headphone. I was excited to get them and they didn't disappoint! HIFIMAN has an excellent reputation as a leader in headphone research. They don't use traditional speakers like all other headphones, so no distortion or clipping is allowed. The description states that they can be powered by a mobile phone or other low-power device. I do not agree. They sound like garbage without a headphone DAC and would draw negative…

Amazing for the price with EQ

They weren't immediately impressive but once tested they are just amazing. Out of the box they appeared to be colored and sounded cold/dry. Break them in and get used to the sound. After you do this you will realize how much better they are than what you have. They peak around 9k, which annoys me. I'm not sensitive to high frequencies but that 9k peak is too much, turn it down about 5db and you're spot on. The soundstage is wide, separation is excellent and the picture is outstanding. The bass…

Amazing value for money

These headphones blew me away for the price. The sound quality is fantastic for $150 headphones. I've heard $400 wireless headphones that sound like tin cans on a string compared to these awesome planar magnetic headphones. The best way to describe the sound quality of these cans is "neutral but appealing". Bass is present but not dominant. Mids are decent and highs are crisp and roll off before getting harsh. Detail and visualization are excellent, and the soundstage is predictably wide for…

My first dive in Planar Magnetic

I'm a bit audiophile but my main hobbies are speakers, car radio and headphones. Years ago, after buying a pair of Sennheiser HD650s instead of HD600s, my parents bought me stolen headphones. I started to realize how much I can enjoy the headphones. Also, I have roommates and I'm a bit of a night owl when they go to bed at 10pm all the time and turning on the speakers isn't really an option unless I want to piss them off. So here we are. Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, AKG and a couple of headphones…
