Beware of this product and company.

This product did not work from the start. At first it seemed normal, but then it started to fail. The support is terrible, you can't talk to anyone. You can only communicate through the 1970s UI. Their technical troubleshooting skills are virtually non-existent. If something goes wrong, they will blame your drives or your system as there is a system compatibility issue. I tried to get my money back and they basically blew me away. Don't waste money. HighPoint is a terrible company not to be…

Pros
  • practical article
Cons
  • so far so good

Well built but no software

Overall the product is well designed and built but what I didn't like is that software and drivers need to be loaded onto your computer to run it. At least on my MAC I need that. It might have been published somewhere on their website but it didn't work for the app I wanted.

Pros
  • Excellently made
Cons
  • Durable

Fast, Hot, and Loud on Computers and Accessories

I really wanted to keep this RAID enclosure as the speeds I got were incredibly fast compared to other enclosure modules I tried. My read/write speed was 330MB/s compared to 220MB/s on other devices, but the fan noise was very loud and annoying. Also, my hard drives got very hot; over 50 degrees Celsius. Fan noise and heat are the deciding factors for me, despite the lightning-fast speeds.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Good but not great

Very bad design in HDD enclosures

When it comes to installing 3.5" HDD in all 4 bays, DO NOT buy this product. There is no room for airflow and the hard drives quickly overheat, leading to failure. The airflow design is very limited, which leads to these problems. I settled on the Mediasonic after trying this one and although the Mediasonic 4's duct is small the low airflow is not restrictive and according to the data I have not had any issues with the Mediasonic Please think twice before you buy this product. SSD = ok2 3.5 HDD

  • Good thing

Really good for what it is. No, this is not a hardware raid!

Will it be as fast as an SSD? no Will it be as fast as a hardware dedicated raid? no (Check out Mini-SAS and get a good LSI controller). But if you're like me, you need a lot more storage on the cheaper side, you're not a video editor and you're almost exclusively on your standard single-drive case. I am using my Ortho4XP Tile Storage Rig for flight simulation. The single USB 3.0 enclosure was fast enough to quickly load a tile mid-flight, but after surveying the United States with satellite…

This product is great for storing backups.

HighPoint RocketStor 6114V 4-Bay Raid 5 USB 3.1 Gen 2 Storage Enclosure This product is great for storing backups. I don't use the specified RAID 5 support, instead I configured two RAID 1 arrays. They are used to secure heavily modded TES/Fallout game rigs (if you mod these series you can probably see why I'm doing this). I cherish what little free time I have and would rather not spend it trying to recover lost files if something goes wrong (almost guaranteed - Bethesda fans get it). 10G…

Pros
  • Rocket Manager solution; Designed for all skill levels
Cons
  • Crumpled Packaging

RAID first time users - very happy with this product

First RAID user - very happy with this product! Around the fall of last year, I started looking for a backup solution with more than 1 KB of memory. I am a very prolific amateur filmmaker with limited skills so as you can imagine there is never enough storage space. I had outgrown the collection of USB docks/SATA drives I had relied on for years and needed something more centralized and durable. There are many "RAID boxes" out there for this type of use and price, but the Rocketstor 6411V…

Pros
  • RAID 5 performance is 2x faster than other USB 3.0 storage solutions
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
