Type of review

This is a simple adjustable AC voltage regulator. A VR chip on a heatsink with a pair of capacitors and a potentiometer for power adjustment. Assembly is easy, but the parts cost the same. All it does is sink the AC voltage, and like the other negative review, you really need to adjust the frequency to control speed, not voltage. On my AC motor, which is similar to a bench grinder but on real medical equipment, I was able to achieve this. Results: I was able to reduce the maximum top speed by…

First look and dyno test

Powered by a 5.4 amp drill, the unit was initially too sensitive and only worked with very little movement of the main potentiometer; The engine will jerk and yaw if over-revved. As others have noted, this is because the RMS output voltage is lowered and set to 220V, but I used 110. Turning the small knob clockwise a few times gave me the full range of adjustment of the speed potentiometer and the motor seemed happy, when full counter clockwise the main potentiometer gave an output voltage of…

Great little product but the specs are wrong

Bought one of these to reduce the stress on some old Christmas lights and to extend the life of the bulb. They only draw about 2A so the device won't overheat. However, upon reviewing the product I found that it uses a BTA16 triac which is rated at 16A RMS instead of the advertised 25A RMS, resulting in a 4 star rating instead of 5 stars. I also doubt it could handle 2000 watts of power without a fan cooling it and not blowing it out. With this type of controller, heat dissipation is the…
