Vinyl shutters come with vinyl fasteners. Drill a 1/4" hole and then insert a 3" plastic scribe into the hole. Sounds good, works fine until a few years pass. Twice I found my blinds flapping because the fasteners became brittle and broke. The first attempt was simply to order more vinyl closures, after a few years these broke too. So I bought her. If you are looking for a screw that will really stick to a thread at close range. This is my favorite screw for connecting two boards. The only screw better suited for attaching two different boards are cap screws, since the threads only go up the screw about an inch and a half and will only grip one board. But these screws are not in 5/16! I ran these Hillman Group heads through a treated jaw that was over half an inch deep! And that's probably the best deal you can find even in big stores.

I have used Hillman fasteners on my deck remodeling project for the base and making new supports in a few places and also on 4WD's.
