Good cats for the price

These are not strong cats. They are slightly better than micro lugs but do not use them when hiking in heavy snow/ice. I climbed Mount Washington with them and they gave me some troubles that made me unsafe while descending the steep, icy slopes. The reason they get 4 stars is because the price is really good.

Exactly what I was looking for

When I bought them I never had crampons as I never hiked in winter. I went to the local camping store and this guy tried to convince me to spend almost $200 on cats. You have now made 4 high spikes in ADK. There are no snowballs and no traction issues on higher sections of ice. My teammate had micro lugs and had some issues with the ball but also struggled at higher elevations with steeper ice. Its advantage was at lower elevations where the rocks and trail were slippery due to light snowpack…

Trail yes, pro no Best crampons

Bought 2 pairs for informal riding on light glacial ice. The buckles worked well on ice with a slight lean angle (less than 20 degrees). Cons: Straps/buckles feel a bit cheap. They don't seem to be able to withstand extreme violence. The tip is short, so the bite is somewhat limited. The toe straps are pushed far forward so the front tips are actually under the toe of the shoe, not forward (you can't actually do that. Unless you walk across the ice a lot on a hike, it ends up not being if you…

They hardly work at all compared to slightly more expensive brands.

If you really don't need smaller spikes/teeth just get the more aggressive sets from Grivel or BD starting at $100. These cats constantly fail on the track. The bottom adjustment screw is very poor and doesn't provide enough security to hold the fit in place. The metal is not the best quality. There is a correct form. They look like the best cats, but they don't function. The shape elevates them to two stars instead of one. I would give them to friends who need them, but they mostly don't work…

Cons
  • Line is shorter than others

Not as good as they look. If only they would stay on their feet

I bought them on Amazon and they arrived pretty quickly. I planned on wearing them while climbing Route 14 in Colorado. At first glance they are really sharp, they have a good system design. In actual use, they didn't fare too well. They are very narrow and for my thick feet (usually 11.5 wide) they were uncomfortable. I put it on top of a mountain and on the way down I bumped into a mailbox pretty hard. Before I could put on my snowshoes, my right crampon fell off and I didn't realize it until

Do you feel like a mountain goat in these cats

This is an update on my first pair of PRO cats. I've got many years and miles on the first pair and they still work well, just wanted to see what the latest improvements add to the functionality. Both pairs are equally easy to put on and take off on the track, even when wearing gloves. This encourages you to use them when you need them and not when you don't. The new keyless length adjustment feature works well, although I've never had trouble adjusting the earlier version as they fit snugly…

Good idea but important details are missing

Pros: Easy to put on and take off; They go very well with different boots; Good grip on snow; Good grip on ice. Weaknesses: The straps easily come loose on packed or caked snow; The included orange plastic clips to prevent the straps from prematurely loosening break easily and sometimes just come loose; Obtaining replacement orange plastic clips is proving to be a challenge. The lower fastener for length adjustment does not hold securely even with high torque. I've used mine for maybe 8-10…

Good not great hiking crampons

Used them on a 3 day trip Feb 2015 and 2 day Sierra hikes and they worked well. Conditions were ideal for testing Cats: lots of ice where there was snow and it was compacted with shallow holes for poles testing anchorages. Good:. Pretty easy. Size XL fits my size 14 winter boots. Quick on/off fastenings. PriceNot very good:. The bindings are not strong enough for real use in the Alps. Safety clips (not shown in photos, these are small red clips worn on belts) are essential. The reason for this…
