Good ground clamp: welding and soldering

The clamp that came with my Primeweld 225 was cheap junk. It curled up when first used. This clamp seems to be quite heavy. It's like the ground clamp my first welder had 40 years ago. It's hard work. If you need a new ground clamp I would recommend it.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Can't remember

Strong but misaligned jaws

Sturdy shell with misaligned and machined jaws. The yoke castings I received were never cleaned. The result is a pronounced ridge that runs down the center of the jaw, giving only a small point of contact, raising the question of why this clamp is better than cheap OEM hardware. Marked HOBART but just another Chinese clip. Some file work might fix this, but it should have been cleaned up before sending.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Functionality

A significant upgrade over the standard Hobart Gripper Clips

in the picture is what my Hobart 190 dealer delivered, it's a minor thing in comparison. The lead clips that come with the machines now are junk, a $1000 machine and comes with a $5 clip! I made some worn copper wires, glued them together and attached to a clamp to get a decent ground, luckily I don't have to do that anymore. This is a great upgrade for your MIG if your clamp is similar to my old one.

Pros
  • . Item Shipping Weight: 1.3 lbs.
Cons
  • Doubt that

Hiss and sparks - poor contact

Cannot recommend this clamp. First the good, then the bad: this is a very strong collar. The spring is great (nice and stiff) and it really takes a good strong grip to open and install. The tab for connecting the cable is also successful and I had no problems with the following aspects, which is why I give it 3 stars. The reason I cannot recommend this clip, and the reason I will be replacing it with a different style/brand clip as soon as possible, is that the metal it is made of does not mix…

Pros
  • Country of origin: China
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly

Bad soil causes all sorts of problems.

Seriously, does the ground clamp REALLY matter? How you make that first bead. Although a solid ground is important for any arc welding process "It's an order of magnitude more important for MIG welding and even more important for people new to MIG welding. But your wire gets stuck in a puddle and kicks off the gun? Just push the wire further in. A bad grounding can cause all sorts of problems imitate wire feed, voltage, engineering and prep issues that just don't exist want to tear your hair…
