The Gator clamps keep coming loose.

The base is of good weight and generally strong. hands are strong Alligator clips look cheap and are held in place with thumbscrews, and the thumbscrews keep loosening themselves. The screws don't match any position on the clamps to hold them in place. They just crimp/squeeze the ends and don't fix them in any way. Maybe there is a way to change it so that they don't fail all the time. But that's just bad design for that matter.

Stable base, good clips, but the lamp socket is a little loose

This is just what I need in soldering tools, with a few features.1. Clamps: I don't think they mention this in the description, but mine came with five clamps (and a sixth for a gooseneck lamp). They only have five holes in the base so you can choose between five clips or four clips + lamp. The arms are strong, stable and flexible throughout their length, maintaining their position to the end. 2. Braces: Other users say they slip. I noticed that each clip had a flat side with two holes drilled.

Pros
  • Welding and soldering
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging

Overall it's a big step up from the traditional table clamp and magnifying glass. For the price (I got a block with four arms) it should be! The crumpled brown packaging leaves a lot to be desired, but my main complaint is that for the price it should come with a power bank for the light and you don't need a USB charger or other USB port to power it. I usually use a large magnifying lamp over my work for this type of work, so I was a bit skeptical of small lights and magnifying glasses…
