Too tight for standard 750ml. They are torn.

Too narrow for standard 750ml. They tear at the edges leaving cork shavings in the wine when pressed. And yes, I soaked them before using them.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • No mold required

Aging well, though. - Home brewing and winemaking

If you're like me, you'll probably open a few bottles while they're still young. If so, then that cork will likely crumble a bit in your bottle. Although these plugs don't do that if given enough time to sit. Doesn't serve my purpose but might work for you.

Pros
  • Practical thing
Cons
  • There are nuances

Okay I think: Winemaking

I think they work fine but they aren't as high quality as what I bought at the local homebrew store. When I use the cork tool to insert, it tears the edges of these corks a bit. They have small pieces that break off. When it comes time to REMOVE those corks, hopefully I won't end up with a bunch of little floating bits in the bottle.

Short-lived: fill and seal

After soaking and sanitizing like I always do, they fit fine. I didn't think anything of it. I kept the cork as always and only sweated a little. No problem. Open the bottle after 2 weeks and the cork will break in half. It just falls apart, but not like an old dry cork. They just aren't worth it, especially if you give your stuff away like I did, you have to be ashamed because the cork on it broke.

Pros
  • nice thing
Cons
  • expensive insurance

Medium density, low quality

Worked well without splitting - the trick is to boil the cork before bottling. I can't comment on how well it seals in the long run because I bottled the wine for immediate consumption (my wine doesn't contain the sulfites, sorbates, and other "goodies" used in commercial wines. On the positive side it is a must drink). fast.Follow up: A second batch of wine spilled and some bottles (about 30%) of the liquid just spilled out after 2 days!Decreased from 3 stars to 1 star.DO NOT BUY!

  • Acceptable
Cons
  • Sad packaging

The plugs might be ok if they were the right size.

The plugs might be ok if sent the correct size. I ordered #8 corks. The packages said stopper number 8. I only started using them in early 2018 and they didn't fit in bottles. I drove 45 miles one way to the brewery. The bag was mislabeled. I actually got 200 #9 capsules! I ended up buying a $17.95 device to get her in so I could use it. I have made over 100 batches of wine and have never had this problem. If they sent #8 corks in a bag labeled and as ordered I would have no problem.

Not the best plugs, but for the price they're pretty decent.

Suitable for wine beginners or perhaps wines that will be consumed relatively quickly. Short #8 corks are easy to install with a hand capper, which is why I bought them. The main disadvantage is that they are a bit brittle after opening the bottle. I had a tear of two after putting it back in the bottle and later removing it - the second I just put back in with less force and all is fine. It's not a big deal if you're careful, but significantly weaker than any store-bought wine cork. I would…

#8 Straight wine corks

Just what I need to cork my next batch of wine. Easy to use with hand held wine bottle inserter. Makes a good seal unaided, but I also store bottles on their side to keep the corks moist and swollen. I also add a thin layer of candle wax to keep the moisture in the cork for extra security. I make a batch of wine each year and give most of the wine away to friends and family. Some drink it quickly, others save it for special occasions or for a dinner party. As far as I know, these are good…

Arrived with a musty smell!

I have used other #8 connectors for years, wanted to try this one but it was a mistake. I bought them in November (15th) to be ready after cleaning etc. at the end of December, opened them today and the plugs smelled of mould! There are NO traces of mold on the cork, the plastic bag was sealed. I tried soaking them in PBW and rinsing them with SaniClean but that didn't work. I NEVER intended to cork 27 bottles of wine with a moldy cork so they went in the trash. Just in case anyone is…
