Hooke Road Universal Bike Car Carrier: Quick-Release Alloy Fork Lock Alloy Bed, Roof Mount Rack for 1 Bike - Cross Bars Excluded Review

I bought 2 of these to use with the Rhino luggage rack that came with my Undercover Ridgelander luggage rack. They are well suited for transporting bicycles. I wish, like other reviews, the parts were stainless steel rather than carbon steel. However, they are easy to put on and take off, I think I can protect them from rain. Overall works well for a very reasonable price.

I had to grind the sides of the nuts 🔩 to fit my roof rack rail. Although there were two sizes, the small was too big. After getting them to the right size I found that the studs were too big as well, but luckily the crossbars I have are aluminum and I was able to push them through. Surprisingly, I fitted the two pieces together on the first try because they are now attached semi-permanently. My front forks bolted on fairly quickly, but I'm not sure how good the velcro straps are and I expect…

The finish is good as described but after a month in my rack the black color has changed on both front fork locks. One turned dark purple, the other brown. They don't look pinched and no longer fit on the crossbar of the shelf. I believe it's some kind of oxidation because you can wipe it off with elbow grease, but it'll come back soon and I suspect some of the fairing/paint/coating is peeling off because the rags turn black when rubbed. The discoloration doesn't seem to affect function yet…
