The only thing he did for me was create a recess that was a good starting point to insert a screwdriver through the .

If you can't remove the filter by hand, this tool probably won't help. A small black jaw will dent the filter once real torque is applied, after which the tool simply slides off. The only thing he did for me was create a groove that was a good starting point to run a screwdriver through the filter, a method that has never failed me.
