Slipping and not getting a good tune

I bought this wire stripper to use when connecting a 14 to 22 gauge wire control box. It worked well with 18 and 22 gauge wires, but started slipping on 14 gauge wires. After that I couldn't adjust the tension properly. It was either too tight or too loose, so even with smaller wires it could slip or break the wire. I ended up going back to my old wire strippers to finish the project. If you use it with a small diameter (18-22 gauge) it will probably work fine, but I wouldn't recommend it for…

On first use they make a very good impression.

I've been working with old wire strippers for years and was fed up with them so I decided to switch to automatic wire strippers. Everything has worked so far, but I haven't had them for a very long time, so I can't be sure about the durability. The black color on the outside of the grips isn't as rubbery as I thought, but they are easy to hold and use. The brass grip adjustment is a bit wobbly in the hole, which worries me a bit. Otherwise they have been good so far. If anything changes in the…

Not as strong as expected

I ordered this tool after a cheap Harbor Freight wire stripper broke. I figured the metal construction and larger size would make it easy to strip 10 and 12 gauge wire. NOT RIGHT! When I first used the tool, the jaw holding the insulated side of the strip didn't grip securely, allowing the wire to slip through instead of the strip. I manually adjusted the thumbscrew several times to increase the tension, but the threads on the brass adjustment screw broke off before the wire. All tension is…

Better than others for strippers

I bought this hoping it would work better than the other one I had bought from Revain. I looked at the close-ups before making my decision. Although it is very similar to the other offerings, the design is slightly different. The previous stripper I bought didn't work very well after a few dozen uses. Jaws that grip one side and cut the other and pull the insulation from the wire were made differently than these. This device has razor blades (see picture) to easily grab and cut the insulation…

It tweaked a bit but they are ok

I'm an old school retail/commercial trader. I've been seeing strippers like this for a while so I thought I'd give them a try. The first thing I saw was a box that said 5in1 AUTO for wire strippers. However, the list never mentioned that they were automatic sweeps. So I tried them on a Romex and they didn't work at first, but there is an adjustment screw to tighten the gripper teeth and with a little tweaking I got them to work consistently. I also removed the plastic gauge that controls the…

Horusdy Wire Stripper

This is a nice tool but not consistent from one stripper to the next. You have to constantly fiddle with the dial to strip the wire, and it's only 14 gauge wire. Pliers just can't cut. 10 Gauge goes far beyond its capabilities. I can crumple the wire and that's it. Then I have to bend the bare wire several times to break it off. I feel sorry for the fools who leave 4 and 5 stars and don't even use them. My old wire stripper is faster and more reliable. This type is said to be faster and less…

Be careful with these

I bought a set of strippers in this style from RadioShack many years ago and they were fantastic. I needed a set for work so instead of going for my personal set I looked for the cheapest I could find - that's how we ended up with these HORUSDY strippers. They work as advertised and can strip very small (20-25 AWG) signal wires down to 7-10 AWG. BUT. BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THESE STRIPERS. I bought this particular pair because I thought the small metal teeth would help with a wider range of wire…

Good for stripping, fair crimping and cutting

Stripping was good, and in other cases where the insulation wasn't completely stripped, it was excellent. I wish it had a strip length printed on it, there are just a couple of etched lines on the plastic lever which leaves you guessing but it's no big deal. What let me down was the crimp capability. First, the caption is meaningless and a little confusing at best. It seems that all insulated crimps are made in the same place (just under the torch) and this is normal. What wasn't good was that…
