The knockdown looked like it was done by a pro.

Perfect for dismantling the ceiling. I managed to scrape, patch, and smooth the popcorn top, but I was a complete novice and messed up my first attempt at texturing with a traditional knife blade. This tool was much more forgiving, functioning like an amulet on the end of a pole. I did my entire living room, hallway and two bedrooms after blowing the texture onto the ceiling with a hopper. Just have a damp rag handy to wipe it off after the texture material has built up, although build-up is…

Must have for a professional knockdown texture.

This tool is essential for creating professional textured surfaces. Other reviews complain about the flexibility of the blades, but that's not all. Without flexibility, the chances of getting textures are higher. Another mistake homeowners/newbies make is not giving the right texture mix or letting the sprayed texture "cure" for a while. That means after spraying, let it dry for a few minutes before tapping it off. For best results: I keep a damp cloth with me, so after tapping off a section of

Good choice for a newbie

I'm renovating a house I bought. made it for a living and recommended this acrylic. I already bought a steel knockdown knife but didn't open the box so I got this one instead. I can't compare it as I haven't used the other one but this one was very easy to use and with the thin flexible acrylic blade I felt it was a lot more forgiving as it didn't completely scrape the texture off the wall . I've made a closet and bedroom with it and I have another bedroom but I highly recommend it especially…

Costs money! Great tool!

The HYDE acrylic knife was bought for exactly what it was designed for. I bought a house that needs a major overhaul and since I do most of the work myself it's difficult to find good tools even at hardware stores. For me, this way works best. I removed all of the popcorn ceilings in the house and then decided to texture the ceilings as some of the ceilings and walls already have them. This did exactly what I needed it for. Knock down the dirt. After spraying the dirt with the funnel, this…

Great but maybe just a little overpriced?

First off I have to say that one of the "fair and balanced" reviews from buyers with "40 years" of contract experience" reported that this folding knife was not for popcorn popping "Knock down" means to minimize the texture of the grout that has been sprayed or rolled onto a wall/ceiling. to add texture to that wall/ceiling "outline" does not mean to cut/remove the popcorn ceiling Many youtube videos and articles on the web demonstrate knockdown techniques however this blade works very well for

Finally the right way to reduce texture!

For years I struggled with patching and texturing drywall with expensive hardware store spray cans that never quite got the look I wanted. After buying a new house that needed a drywall repair I decided to buy a thirty dollar bunker gun on port charters and this knife is harder to find. After a few tries I was hooked. I was missing that in my technique. Thinned caulk sprayed onto the wall and then chipped off five minutes later was the result I was looking for. A tip: when laying, the grout…

I laughed every time I saw an acrylic knockdown knife.

Now that most people in my area are renovating rather than adding extensions or building new homes, I've found that the same textures stick in existing painted surfaces. Obviously, new areas of drywall dry out the texture at a different rate than existing non-porous painted surfaces. I was left with 2 options. Either apply a layer of caulk to the entire area or fill the entire area with soil. Both need more time. In desperation I bought a demolition knife and that solved the problem. This…

A thoughtful, balanced review worth reading

I'd like to start by saying that I value Revain reviews and use them as the basis for most purchasing decisions. I bought the Hyde Knockdown Knife in large part based on the very high positive reviews. I would also like to point out that I have been doing home renovations for 40 years and have considerable experience removing popcorn from ceilings. However, when I received the product, I was surprised at how thin it was. However, I tested it along with a 10" drywall blade after naturally…
