Used this to install a 12 hole ring and Chevrolet gear

To do this I took a piece of 1/4" steel plate and punched two holes in it so I could screw it in to the body to get a stable measurement platform. With my caliper I used the depth side to measure with to make sure the caliper was stable on the plate. Went like clockwork! Gave me readings that I needed the necessary Make adjustments with shims and you're done and back on track. If you have hundreds of dollars on professional depth gauges, this will work just fine.

Pros
  • Made of stainless steel, precision ground and hardened
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Great innovative product!

Digital calipers used as depth gauges are actually very accurate, but they have to be perfectly vertical. This gives you a lot more repeatable measurements, and repeatability and accuracy go hand in hand! Now it's perfect. The depth mic is still a must-have tool for sub-0.001" or even sub-0.003" measurements, but it works for everything else! Just make sure you dress it up right! Position the caliper vertically to check depth on a flat surface (or granite if available) and install when it…

Pros
  • Overall span 2.93 inches
Cons
  • Disappear

Good idea. for brake caliper

but actual performance is likely to be less accurate than using a caliper base. I have a 4" of the same brand and the way this product attaches to the slide body is just not as balanced as it should be to get good flush readings. If you put it slightly over the base of your slide protruding and then zeroing the depth scale on the reference surface you may get a repeatable reading as my readings with that would not be reliable enough for the measurements I took (in the machine shop) This makes…

Pros
  • Simple attachment with screw handle. No caliper modification.
Cons
  • The packaging is ugly,
