Non-metallic - better than metal and costs less too!. For communications, cable TV, computer wiring. Mounting wings hold bracket securely against wall when screws are tightened. Adjusts to fit 1/4" to 1" thick wallboard, paneling, or drywall. Bracket is its own template for cut out. D low voltage mounting bracket for existing construction. Non-metallic.

Very thin, doesn't hold screws well

I couldn't find a 3 gang low voltage socket locally so I bought this. The screw holes in the wall plate cover (not the mounting brackets that attach it to the drywall, they're fine) are very flimsy and won't catch the screws. I used very long wall panel screws and was dependent on the drywall more than the box to hold the wall panel in place.
