100% cotton. very heavy base layer. Recommended by this owner for colder days with limited activity. You'll sweat in them for anything more than moderate outdoor activity. then you will catch a cold if you slow down or stop. I really like this winter expedition wear, it's almost the only caliber I like to wear all winter at the age of 68. I don't itch in it like others do and although they say cotton doesn't wick moisture as well as synthetics, I honestly haven't had such a problem and have been cycling all winter as my only mode of transportation, so I'm sweating, and really, I am never felt uncomfortable with wet fabrics. I'm 5ft 10", skinny and knowing this wouldn't get special treatment in the wash I ordered a large to accommodate shrinkage to consider if i must be a medium. Washed in warm water and dried on high heat before wearing. Had the expected shrinkage, but nothing crazy, and ended up with a medium sized shirt, just what I was hoping for.
