Insect Shield Dog T-shirt repels ticks, mosquitoes, ants, flies, chiggers, and midges! It is not rated for fleas, but since the active ingredient, permethrin, is contained in many flea products, so we would suspect that it would also discourage fleas. How it works: The Insect Shield T-shirt by Doggles, is made of fabric that is bonded (by magic!) to permethrin using the same EPA rated technology as that for human Insect Shield clothing. Permethrin is a man-made derivative of Chrysanthemum flower extract. Permethrins have been used in flea and tick dips, shampoos, etc for dogs for many years. We were told by the InsectShield representative that the T-shirt should repel insect for a 3' radius, so your dog's tail and head should also be protected.

Not for us. on shirts

Treated with a chemical toxic to cats. For this reason I will no longer use it. My cats cuddle with my dogs and I don't risk leaving marks on my dogs' fur. It helps a little against the bugs, but I want to avoid toxins for all my buddies.

Medium is perfect for Daschund Mix 20lb

My dog was bitten when I was taking her for a walk in the forest park. This mesh tank top is great at repelling flying bugs without overheating as you walk. The shirt also has reflective details on the sides. It feels comfortable and is well made. I want to buy one for our little Jack Russell mix.

Excellent protection against insects

I don't like exposing my dog to the chemicals in commonly used dog repellents, but I do agree with the permethrin I use myself. I was happy to find this vest and our walks were fun again. It works wonders to repel flying insects. There aren't any ticks either, but I'm not sure if it's because of the vest. Easy to put on and the dog doesn't mind. I put it under its straps so don't worry about snagging on the leash. I bought a medium for my 17lb Rat Terrier. Next time I will buy a big one to…

Medium size perfect for my 32lb / 18" / 20" dogs. It seems to help get rid of the mites, but you're still prone to them on your head and ears. I would give it 5 stars except the stitching comes undone almost immediately and my two dogs run and fall through the bushes and the flimsy material rips. T-shirt experiment failed

I bought this shirt for short walks in the park. I always check my 1 year old Bichon Frize for ticks before I bring him home. I was dismayed to see two deer ticks on his chest, just below his shirt, happily sucking my dog's blood. You look good and alive. After pulling them out of the skin with their heads intact, I put a t-shirt on them and watched what happened. They tried to escape but there was no sign of death. The shirt was never washed. Cut your own hole for the leash to attach to the belt underneath. And - Continued '18

The only reason I gave this dog 4 stars instead of 5 is that there is no hole to attach the leash when wearing a harness underneath. This is definitely a design flaw. I had to cut out the slit and cover it with clear nail polish so the cut threads wouldn't cause "spreading". (I could probably also melt the cut edges with a burning incense stick, which is what I do with the cut ribbons.)
