does its job on levels

Looks very nice but the bubble is quite big and because of this the ends of the bubble are more visible than the body and it's hard to see in low light.

  • Some cons

Handy Tool is the best measuring and marking tool

Works well in daylight. Provides good eye-level viewing at the same height at a distant point. Provides a quick indication of elevation changes for drainage or something else.

Pros
  • Dope πŸ”₯
Cons
  • Useless Functions

Nice little device for measuring and marking tools

I bought this primarily to check the level in a small pond that I am about to flood. quick assessment of the level. There aren't any instructions for this, so I'm not sure how to use the lines to calculate how far off a level is.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Piggy Bank Price

An excellent tool for its price

I made a 5ft monopod out of PVC pipe and tee and used another 10ft PVC rod and marker to make a control rod. Used this rig to gauge my very steep section to the inch. This tool works well but has no magnification so the range with the Witness Staff is limited to about 25 feet.

Pros
  • Quality assembly
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Very useful for measurement and layout tools

I've never had a house on a flat surface so I'm constantly trying to get an idea of elevation changes when looking at projects and around A house. I often find myself alone with my transit and pivot disabled. It's just a good Q&A tool to get an idea of the terrain and how it falls. Surprisingly useful for what it is.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Some bugs

I would have thought it would be easier to use

Maybe there is a steep learning curve or something, I've never used anything like this but it seems very difficult to understand. The level is accurate of course, but I have to squint so hard and it's so hard to see what's in front, it wasn't very helpful. This brand was highly recommended so I'm surprised and wondering if this is fake. The thing is tiny and feels pretty cheap. For the price they could definitely make the lens bigger so you can see enough to get your bearings.

Pros
  • Easy install
Cons
  • Not bad but...

This is very good hand vision.

The peephole is a horizontal slit rather than a round hole, allowing more light into the eye without sacrificing accuracy. The bubble is a neat dichotomy on the scale. I like that the bubble mirror is in the middle of the field of view and not on the side. I think this helps maintain the horizontal yaw angle of the bubble. There is no adjustment (like most handheld scales) but my initial testing showed the error to be less than I can measure. (I'll try not to drop it on a hard surface.)

Pros
  • Ease of use
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

Resin only contrary to packaging and instructions

I love Johnson products but anyone who documents and packages their products has no idea how their products work. from far away. Johnson's packaging shows how to use this tool to align objects in the user's field of view. The instructions state that all objects along the crosshairs (in the user's field of view) are on the same plane. It turns out that the tool doesn't allow the user to align the crosshair (business grid), it just sets a line of sight directly away from the user - and not very…

Pros
  • Very strong
Cons
  • No instructions

Suitable for many but not all applications

This small hand held level is a great addition to my marine biology field equipment list. My students use them with vertical poles to measure the elevation of locations in the intertidal zone relative to the height of the tide. It is well suited for this purpose. Admittedly, the device is light, plasticky and even feels cheap in the hand. But it works if you don't have to be too specific. I found an accuracy of +/- 1-2 cm at 10 meters or so. Even if you're on a budget like most of us, the price
