Consistent and excellent coffee - no filter taste.

Really great coffee! I've tried many different coffee systems (e.g. Aeropress and Bee House) but have settled on Kalita Wave for one cup and Chemex for large batches. Both make excellent coffee, but unfortunately both use branded filters. Wave always makes good coffee - I have a good grind and brewed 18-21g of coffee per 300g of water. The filters don't seem to add any flavor (I stopped rinsing them to get a better first bloom) and get the job done.

Pros
  • Disposable filter
Cons
  • High price

Filters do not break with the right technology!

I found these filters work quite well, especially if you use the technique from the video on the web, slowly pour hot water into the center of the filter and slowly feel to the top, the filter will never become collapse when you do this. However, if the cone flattens out at all, the edges of the filter will stick together and you may need to separate them before pouring in the coffee. So in terms of functionality I would rate it 4 to 5 but I disagree with the smell released during the prewash…

the brown ones are said to hold their shape better but I prefer these. I rinse Browns in near-boiling water, 50 at a time, multiple rinses. They're never odorless, but I don't feel them afterwards. On the other hand, they are so weakened by this rinsing that whites (unwashed) keep their shape better. Dimensional stability isn't that important, but it's easier to pour into a filter that hasn't deformed while we're here. Let me just say that I don't think the impulse fill method is necessary with
