It's Solder on Welding & Soldering

He does what he has to do. It's a thicker solder so wasn't good for what I was doing on a small PCB but it matched the display, I should have read about the different sizes.

Kester, what else? good for welding and soldering

I've been in electronics for over 40 years and have tried more 1lb Kester (and multicore) solder rolls than I can remember. Kester rosin prepares contacts well for soldering, giving you good mechanical and electrical contact. The solder flows smoothly and rounds properly. Please note that I use it for soldering small wires, connectors, circuit boards etc, not big wires etc.

Too thick for my 40 watt iron

For my use of guitar cables, speaker jacks, guitar electronics, too thick for my 40 watt iron! Works well in the end, but doesn't melt nearly as well as my fine rosin core solder.

Pros
  • Tools and Housewares
Cons
  • Requires outlet

Really good lot.

I've been using the same Radioshack soldering coil for years so it's time to buy something new. I have previously bought some that are said to be lead free because they flow like plasticine. Concerned that every cheap solder I bought would do the same thing, I decided to switch back to cheap in case I had to throw that out too. nope! This stuff flows like oil and works better than anything I've used in years.

Reliable, long lasting solder with high temperature circuits

After 29 years with EE. fails 90% of the time when used in a high voltage and current circuit. Basically they are tube amps. But KESTEF is a name that never fails. I like the thicker 0.05" KESTER solder because it's easy to use and can be held in one hand while soldering with the other. a perfect bead falls on my solder joint. I've found that with other brands after only 2-3 hours of use the chemicals used (didn't look for it) left a chemically yellow/brownish ring around the joint the solder…
