Had to fiddle around to fit the original (cut) leaf spring and found - through trial and error - that I had to replace the (capsule shaped) transponder chip with the original (broken) key fob. But it works. Too bad there is no VW logo. Still, it's a lot better than spending over $200 on a new dealer key.

This is it and works fine. My only concern is how difficult it was for me to carve the blank key. I still haven't been able to find anyone to do this for my car because it's an internal groove that a lot of people don't do. But that's not the fault of the manufacturer, so I still give it 5 stars.

Dealer wanted $254. Got this remote and keys. Found a Jetta ignition key that fits Passat and VW at a junkyard for $5. Turn it on the door. Program the remote control for 15 seconds. Replace the key blade with the part removed on the right, which turns on the ignition and opens the door. Got a new key. Save me the money to find a place to cut the key and charge for cutting.

It works great and is a great replacement for a worn out old device that suddenly stopped working (even after trying a new battery). There are two things to know about this: 1. I took it apart and put in my previous cutting key. If you do this, you will find that the pieces do not fit together exactly and the key does not pop out as quickly as the original key fob.2. Well, it worked in the end, but not without drama. I have a 2004 VW Jetta. Firstly, to be clear and hopefully obvious, you will receive an uncut key so you will need the services of some sort of locksmith anyway.
