Great smoke detector!

Bought to replace a recently expired smoke alarm in the hallway near my kitchen. This detector is excellent for this purpose. Photoelectric detectors are a better choice for nearby kitchens as they are less likely to have unnecessary alarms. The detector is powered by a 9V battery.

Pros
  • Top marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • I don't remember, but there was something

Good fire safety product

I bought 2 of these in 2018. With fresh new batteries, one of these continued to be unstable and beeped. Mfg., offered a replacement. When I got home, I replaced both devices with new 9 volt alkaline batteries when needed. Easy to install and test. I hope this time for more than 2 years of life. Same model.

Obsolete unit received 4 years ago

The smoke alarm I received on December 14, 2021 was manufactured in July 2017. FOUR YEARS AGO?! Even if it works great after more than 4 years on the shelf, it is recommended to replace it ten years after the date of manufacture. This means that almost half of the useful life is gone. it's coming back Revane, your supply chain for this item is leaking unacceptably expired product.

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Can't remember

Used goods sent

I have always believed in Kidde and will continue to do so with the new smoke detector. However, I ordered a new product and apparently they sent me a used product with the date actually written in a marker on the back! In addition, it was without the original packaging and was completely missing a wall bracket. I still keep this smoke alarm as I just replaced a 10 year old Kidde alarm and it fits perfectly in the old bracket. I am not happy to receive a returned product even though I haveโ€ฆ

Unreliable, permanent defects

These Kidde smoke alarms proved unreliable, almost every alarm we bought would eventually trip out for no reason and would not reset. I'm surprised they didn't get a recall due to these issues, the original set we bought from Home Depot and when we picked it up as a replacement they said it was a common problem with this make/model. After many false alarms (often in the middle of the night) everyone starts ignoring the alarm, mistaking it for another defect. Home Depot eventually replaced all 8

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Not everything fits
