As a dedicated home brewer, I was looking for a reliable, easy-to-use hydrometer to measure sugar levels .Unfortunately this product fell flat. Despite carefully following instructions, the reading it provided was inconsistent and far from accurate, causing batches to come out less than desirable. The construction also felt flimsy, and the small print on the glass was difficult to read. As a result of using this product, i found THAT it caused more frustration than it was worth. I installed a very technical water softener at home. I didn't like the recommended brine tank water levels, and the manufacturer's brine tank design resulted in less than fully saturated brine unless one kept the brine tank full at all times. With this device I was able to confirm that my simple workaround of getting 100% brine down to the last grain of salt worked well.
