I have been working on a set of paint hardened garage doors for over 20 years. Each of these discs was able to eat through about five sections (6 inch boards) on one of my two garage doors before wearing out. The whole set didn't go through a full door. I would use them again as other things I've tried to remove the paint with resulted in damage to the wood underneath the paint. Still, if I had to do it again, I'd stock up on it and give it a try. They wear out fairly quickly, but if you use elbow grease judiciously and let the tool work, it will quickly deal with mill scale, rust, etc. I have not done this. Don't try them on stained stuff yet, but you can imagine them sticking together a little unless you use a lower speed, which = lower heat. I ordered these to remove paint and rust from a trailer I was going to put back into service and ran out of similar discs for another project. These discs lasted a little longer than other brands and did a really good job of removing paint and rust. They prepared the surface for the primer quickly and easily: a pane took up almost half of the frame, and a service trailer fender made from 5x10 angle iron.
