Kuman Display Monitor Protective Raspberry 3.5", 60Hz, Touchscreen, ‎Kuman TFT Touch Screen, LCD Review

The image from the CD booted immediately. Then I thought something was wrong with one of my eyes as the screen looked weird. I quickly realized that I had to rotate the entire Pi 30-40 degrees to the left to see images clearly on the screen. Adjusting the brightness didn't help either. I recommend buyers stay away from this particular screen and possibly all Kuman displays/products if that is any measure of their quality control.

The Kuman TFT 3.5 LCD offers excellent value for money. The drivers are easy to install using instructions and terminal commands on the company's GituHub website. The display snaps easily into place. I lowered the brightness of the LCD to 50% as I don't need it at 100%. I took a photo of the instructions to help anyone who wants to turn down the brightness. It looks like a good device but I'm having some issues with it. Small note: the HDMI jumper doesn't quite fit, I had to undo the screws that attach the Pi to the bottom of the included case to even get the jumper connected, and even then it's tight. I tried installing this on a Pi originally set up with NOOBS which resulted in a system crash. I had to reinstall Raspbian to get it to boot again. After many days of trying to follow the instructions, still no touchscreen. I even went so far as to restart Raspian a few times to no avail. The provided CD image is corrupt. Contacted support, no response after 3 attempts, even double checked my spam folder to make sure. For this to work, I had to get a pre-configured custom Raspbian image emailed to Kuman (contact info at kumantech.com). The instructions in the box and on the included DVD didn't work for me - I must have spent over 4 hours before asking Koeman for help. After you've received a custom image via email, no settings are required at all - just map your SD card and it should work straight away. I'm currently using it as a photo frame. The screen was pretty much ready to go out the gate, but the touchscreen isn't working yet, so that'll have to be figured out. Be careful with the case, I overtightened it and it cracked. I would recommend leaving an adhesive sheet on the case to reinforce it. Although customer service is great!

Retropi installed and the screen loaded immediately. Do not use touchscreen functions. Text in games/Retropia is hard to read at any resolution set.

It's okay, but the viewing angle on the screen was terrible and unwatchable. The screen shot 45 to 60 frames per second for Retropie 4.4. I couldn't look at the screen because when you rotate the screen to look straight at it, most of the screen goes black.

I had a problem connecting to my Raspberry PI and was ready to move on and forget about that 3.5 inch screen. I turned to Koeman for help. I quickly received an answer on what to do to get started. The screen was pretty much plug and play via the HDMI port. If you want to access the touchscreen features, you'll need to install a few drivers, but it's a fairly simple process.

The drivers that came with the display didn't work (causing a kernel panic). Waveshare drivers cannot calibrate touchscreen functionality. Acrylic panel fasteners will not stick together, you may need to find your own spacers. Locking with power supply extension KH68C.
