LG 27UN850 W: Borderless DisplayHDR Monitor with Adjustable Stand, USB Hub, and High Dynamic Range Review

I ordered this monitor hoping to save space and money compared to a traditional 4K monitor and USB-C/Thunderbolt dock for my MacBook. I was hoping to use one cable for video, data and charging. It works in most cases, but there are some frustrating issues with the USB-C capabilities on this monitor. The monitor is having trouble charging my Macbook, sometimes the charging current drops to less than 10W and sometimes it stops completely, which can only be fixed by turning the monitor on and off.

The stand is great, strong, very versatile and easy to move around, plus there is a channel for cable management, very nice! The display itself is great, but not very bright and absolutely NOT "calibrated" like some of the reviews I've seen. It took several attempts with different brightness/contrast settings using the advanced options in the macOS Display Calibrator app to get a usable calibration. super resolution off. UPDATE: April 25th, 2021: After encountering issues with USB-C cables longer than the 12" cable supplied by LG, I decided to try Apple cables as Apple is known for produce high quality products. I love how well they designed the stand for this monitor - the whole thing assembles in about 2 minutes with no tools. The monitor looks great and the USB-C charging and peripherals work great for my MacBook Pro, so all I have to do is plug in a USB-C cable and I'm good to go. I have bought about 8 of these for personal use as well as for our office and they have proven to be very reliable. I recommend this for ease of setup and use, image quality, and cost.

UPDATE 11/2022: As long as one is careful not to squeeze the cable plugged into the back of the monitor, it works quite stably. After you plug USB-C into your Mac, it's important to wait for the "connected" sound, find the battery icon to see the charging flash, and only then close the laptop to put it into clamshell mode offset.
