Look, the color is expensive. When you want to have a collection of primary colors in your collection, it can really add up and leave a huge hole in your wallet. There is a huge amount of shades in this set and although the tubes are not very large the set will last forever if you are working on smaller projects like mine. The paints are of excellent quality, apply evenly, look beautiful and saturated. For the price you really can't do better.

Tubes are very small and Ultramarine Blue is completely dry. I use them on illustration board and find it impossible to get an even color without streaks. Streaks remain after staining the area 4 and 5 times. When it dries it looks like crappy tempera paint. Please note that there is no black or white in the 48 color set. Some pipes are very runny while others are thick or hard. I teach acrylic painting in college and would not recommend Liquitex to my students.

This is my first experience with Liquitex Basics acrylic paint. I am new to working with acrylics. Liquitex seems like a good brand and I saw a lot of people using basics so I started with that. As a new artist I bought a set of 48 pieces. With more experience, I was able to mix more of my own colors, but I didn't want to get too excited. I tried about 12 colors and was satisfied. Burnt sienna is a bit thick, but very healthy. I strongly recommend that beginners who purchase this set also purchase a large tube of Titanium White. Let me start by saying that before trying them I only used Apple Barrel brand paints so it was like day and night between them. These colors are thick, and I mean really thick! They glide across both canvas and mixed media paper. I had no problems applying the paint.
