Best Method for Joining Pipes Over 1Β½ " in Diameter

My steam heating system had leaking 2" pipe installed by a professional steam plumber. I decided to repair the connections myself with pipe sealing cord. The Council of Professional Plumbers recommended Loctite 55. It was easy to work with and the Teflon made the connections slide easily. Now I have a 100% leak free system!

Pros
  • Thread Sealant
Cons
  • Hardware

Trouble sealing leaks? Use it!

Had serious problems caulking old threaded iron pipe, tried good quality Teflon tape, tried good quality pipe lube (Rectorseal Tru-Blu), tried a combination of both but couldn't stop the dripping! Old-school plumbers used hemp and paste (now frowned upon due to bacterial growth). This stuff is the modern hygienic equivalent and sealed my troubled pipe in no time. If you think you need it, buy it, it works incredibly well!

Pros
  • Industrial & Scientific
Cons
  • Not sure

Best thing I've ever used to stop a stubborn leak!

I had leaking fittings for my water filter at home and nothing could stop it. I tried cleaning out the threads with a tap and die, tightened it with thread tape, pipe lube and consistently 1/4 turn at a time. Nothing worked until I discovered this great invention. After winding the Loctite 55 thread, not a single drop escaped. Every time I walk through the filter room I check the fittings. Dry!. I have already recommended this to several people. Even my father, a retired engineer from the water

Pros
  • Industrial sealant
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other picks
