Doesn't seal as advertised

I wish it would perform as advertised but it doesn't, at least not on the Spicer stock aluminum cap with raised sealing surface. The embossed logo seems to leave a gap that allows for leakage. I wish the manufacturer cared less about the ego and more about the sealing. Look at the picture, look at the spaces between the letters. I want a refund but need to put a truck on the road so use sealant and write off $25.

Cons
  • I won't tell

I did a 90% good job removing/cleaning the previous seal

I did a 90% good job removing/cleaning the previous gasket. This gasket, if I remember correctly, has 3 ribs, which indicates that it will have a very good, redundant, positive seal. I've handled it with care but I could see that it could suffer a little during installation, nice and sturdy, solidly built. If I understand correctly, is it reusable? Huge plus. I definitely threw a sticker on my rig. 5*

Very thin, I think it will be better if made 2 times thicker.

If you use this and notice a leak before you can apply some of your favorite gasket glue and be sure. I cleaned and scraped thoroughly, but what if there was a leak before the cover could be flexed? Another 1 star user made it clear that the shim seal is broken halfway through the shim in their ad. Mine didn't leak on city streets at 35mph for a few days, but as soon as I hit the freeway it started leaking. I'll delete/look at this theory and get back to you.

Perfect seal. No messy RTV sealant and no leaks!

In response to another leak report, the gasket is of very good quality and the raised logo has nothing to do with the leak. Properly removing the old RTV sealant and cleaning the differential case, removing any rust or burrs with a flat file, and using a solvent such as brake cleaner will remove the RTV film from the case. Using the bottom tap, clean the threads in the housing and remove the RTV sealant from the threads of the cover bolts. Make sure the cover and body are dry and free of oil…

  • Not bad but...
