To be honest if I had something thicker I would just make a few holes in the mesh bigger - it's plastic mesh, I think shielding the oil is a good idea but I usually water directly from the original container. Pretty big and long, just what I needed to pour oil in my grave.

Get to the toughest places with this funnel. As others have noted; Remember that the flexible spout does not hold its shape. So don't expect the spout to bend and stay in place. I know some people are looking for this feature, so skip this if you're looking for it. I don't need it so it works fine. You can also unscrew the flexible spout when you don't need it.
