My analysis of this desoldering tool showed that it was a complete waste of money. Despite its promise to remove solder with its vacuum function, it failed to do so effectively. The suction was weak and the tool was difficult to control, often damaging the surrounding circuitry. The only positive is that it is compact and easy to store. However, this is outweighed by its overall lack of effectiveness and poor design.
Pros
Effective in removing solder from PCBs and electronic components.
Cons
Requires a power source which can limit portability and ease of use in certain situations.
This tool was bought for the occasional desoldering job. I wasn't planning on using it too much so I didn't want to look for something prettier and settled on this guy that looked like something in between. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised to find this product was surprisingly good quality for $5. It is well made and sturdy, easy to take apart for cleaning. It does an excellent job removing solder, and its [almost] all-metal construction feels solid enough to last. No complaints. Theseβ¦
Pros
Right or left handed version makes it easier to use with one hand
Still a problem. Very cheap, poor metalwork/cleaning. Sharp edges make it difficult to "load" the weapon. "Good for end-to-end connections." GENERALLY not true. the tip has an outer diameter of 4 mm and an inner diameter of 2 mm. If you have 0.1 inch mesh pins, they will not fit around a pin. "Rotate to remove tip." Cannot rotate. Even with pliers. The instructions show an arrow around the tip/taper area, but none of the three elements rotate there. Pretty sure it's stuck due to poor handlingβ¦
